KING JAMES BIBLES VS. MODERN VERSIONS
COMPARING THE SCRIPTURE
This comparison focuses on the New Testament and deals, specifically, with the differences between all King James Bibles (KJV, AKJV, NKJV and KJ 2000) and the majority of modern translations (ESV, NIV, NLT, NASB, etc.).
All New Testament translations are based on manuscripts that originate either in Antioch, Syria or in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Textus Receptus (received text) is the basis for the translation of the New Testament in the King James Bibles. The Textus Receptus itself is mainly based on the Byzantine Text, (Antiochian Text, Majority Text or Traditional Text). In contrast, the Critical Text is the basis for the translation of the New Testament in the majority of modern Bibles. The Critical Text is mainly based on the Alexandrian Text, which has shorter readings in key places.
