Abide in Jesus: The Truth & The Word of God

Matthew 7:13-14 Door

There is only one way. The narrow way.

Jesus is that way. If we follow him, not our image of him, we will be one with him and have the mind of Christ. One mind. Perfectly joined together.

As Christ is not divided, neither ought those be who follow him. This isn’t about ecumenism, which esteems unity higher than truth, but about the singular truth that is Jesus, is the mind of Christ, is not divided.

Jesus is THE truth, not many “truths”. Just as Jesus can be known, so can truth be known, the truth that is Jesus, is the word of God.

Jesus said, IF we continue (remain, abide) in his word, we can KNOW the truth.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32)

Like those in Berea, we must have a willing mind to search the scriptures for the truth. We must gird our loins with it, standing strong against the many false doctrines which abound today.

John 6:54-56

If we abide in denominations and teachers, we will imbibe theological concepts, “isms”, and well-honed doctrines. We will be full of man’s wisdom, yet will believe we know the word of God.

Imbibe is to receive or absorb as if drinking. When we give our ears to false teachers, we drink in the spirit of error.

When we abide in the word of God, in sincerity, we drink in the spirit of truth and our knowledge of God grows, our love of God grows. We receive the love of the truth.

Jesus is the spirit of truth. He is the Word of God. When we chew on the words of God, we absorb them and are nourished by truth.

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. (1 John 2:27-28)
