The book of John is a wonderful testimony of Jesus being God manifest in the flesh, the one and only Saviour of mankind, and includes seven distinct “I am” statements from Jesus in which he confirms his divinity, with each statement pointing to a specific attribute of the great “I AM” who revealed himself to Moses in the burning bush (Exodus 3:14).
John 14:6 is the sixth of these seven “I AM” statements.

A few years ago, when housesitting in Wales, there was a small peg letter board on the wall. The pre-existing message was something forgettably banal, and so I replaced it with “I am the way, the truth, and the life. John 14:6”, as it’s one of my favourite verses about Jesus, our Saviour.
This verse shows us that Jesus is the only way to God the father and the only way to be saved (Acts 4:12). He is the only path up the proverbial mountain, with all other paths leading downwards to eternal destruction, as Solomon warned in Proverbs:
There is a way which seems to be right with men, but the ends of it reach to the depths of hell. (Proverbs 14:12) [Brenton]
This verse shows us that Jesus is the only truth. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1) and grace and truth came by him (John 1:17). God’s word is true (John 17:17) and faithful (Revelation 21:5), and Jesus, himself, is called Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11). As Peter said to Jesus:
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. (John 6:68)
This verse also shows us that Jesus is the only life, because “in him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). Jesus is the living bread from heaven that gives life to the world (John 6:33; 6:51), to those of us who believe on his name:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. (John 6:47)
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:10-13)
Amen, and Amen!

John 14:1-7
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions [rooms]: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
