Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord. (Deuteronomy 6:4 BES)
The Lord God is one. He is integral, whole, complete. In him is no schism, no contradiction, no lack. Every aspect of his being and character is in perfect harmony.
As Moses continued speaking, he told the children of Israel what they must do with this knowledge that the Lord God is one Lord.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy mind, and with all thy soul, and all thy strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5 BES)
Jesus confirmed Deuteronomy 6:4-5 as comprising the first commandment.
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment. (Mark 12:29-30 KJV)
Jesus also confirmed that he and his father are one.
I and [my] Father are one. (John 10:30 KJV)
This shows us a couple of important things:
- That Jesus, too, is integral, whole, complete, with no schism, no contradiction, no lack, and every aspect of his being and character in perfect harmony.
- That Jesus and the Father are one with one another, united and in perfect harmony without any separation, division, or discord.
When Jesus later prayed to the Father that all who believe on him will be one, he was praying for every believer, including you and me.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (John 17:20-21 KJV)
This is a truly blessed prayer of great significance as Jesus prays for all believers to be united and in prefect harmony with the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Not simply putting aside differences for the sake of ecumenical harmony, but truly aligned in heart, mind, and purpose.

[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all. (Ephesians 4:4-6 KJV)
Let us praise God that he is one, that he is above all, and that there is none beside him. And love him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength!
