4th day of week (“our” Wednesday), the unbelieving Jews’ preparation day, Jesus crucified (third hour, around 9 am; darkness from sixth to ninth hour; noon to 3 pm; Jesus dies around 3 pm, the ninth hour; veil torn; earthquake; rocks rent; graves opened, though the dead didn’t rise until AFTER Jesus was resurrected; Jesus wrapped in linen, with the spices, and laid in tomb by Joseph and Nicodemus (cf, John 19:38-42); tomb secured; women purchased and prepared spices and ointments (cf, Luke 23:48-56) ahead of the high day sabbath, and perhaps continued the process between the day following the aforementioned high day sabbath and the weekly sabbath). DAY 0: Jesus in the tomb/Hades one night (1).
5th day of week (“our” Thursday), the unbelieving Jews’ high day, a religious sabbath (“passover”) day (not the weekly sabbath). DAY 1: Jesus in the tomb/Hades one day (1), one night (2).
6th day of week (“our” Friday), the day prior to the weekly sabbath, so between the religious high day and the weekly sabbath; see DAY 0 note, above, regarding the women preparing the spices and ointments. DAY 2: Jesus in the tomb/Hades one day (2), one night (3).
7th day of week (“our” Saturday), the above women/others rested on the weekly sabbath. DAY 3: Jesus in the tomb/Hades one day (3), one partial night (3+, perhaps 3.5), as He was already risen before dawn (cf, Matthew 28:1) the 8th day (“our” Sunday), the first day of the week.
TOTAL count: 3 days, 3 nights, as with Jonah in the whale’s belly:
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah: For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:39-40)
SO WHICH day did Jesus rise? The third day, possibly around 3 am (3.5 days since His death), prior to the dawn of Day 4, as shown below:
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. (Matthew 28:1-7)

epiphṓskō; fut.epiphaúsō, from epí (G1909), upon or besides, denoting accession, coming or drawing toward, and phṓskō (n.f.), to shine.
That is, before the dawn, as the weekly sabbath day was drawing to a close. Jesus was already risen on the third day, before the dawn of Day 4.
THUS JESUS WAS RAISED, RESURRECTED, ON THE TRUE SABBATH — NOT THE MANMADE FIRST DAY “SABBATH” as set forth by the aforementioned blasphemous and heretical “churches” who likewise blasphemously and heretically celebrate “Easter” (Ishtar) a PAGAN unholy day (just like “Christmas”; read: Saturnalia) WHEREAS the ONLY instance of “Easter” in the whole of the Bible was blasphemously and heretically ADDED TO the eternal words of God in Acts 12:4, as an UNDENIABLE CORRUPTION to the original Greek word πασχα, meaning, of course, PASSOVER, Jesus being THE PERFECT, UNBLEMISHED PASSOVER LAMB OF GOD, OUR SAVIOUR, without whom NONE of our sins would be forgiven, and we’d all be “condemned already” as noted by Jesus the Christ in John 3:18, and as confirmed by John the Baptist in the last verse of the very same chapter, Verse 36!
And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. (Acts 12:4)

But the blasphemous and heretical “Church” of England — following in the wicked wake of its mother, the likewise blasphemous and heretical Roman Catholic “Church” — had to “justify” the inclusion of “Easter” in its “holy” King James Bible as a satanic means of the wolves pulling the wool over their sheepish flock’s eyes!
Again, just as the countless last days “churches”, worldwide, do concerning the likewise blasphemous and heretical celebrating of the Roman winter solstice unholy day of Saturnalia (“Christmas”) known for its all-out debauchery, orgies, drunkenness and gluttonous feasts.
Apparently the Roman Catholic “Church”, the Orthodox “churches”, the Protestant “churches”, and the Pentacostal and charismatic “churches” have no quibble with their blasphemous (openly calling God a liar) and heretical lies concerning their beloved “Good Friday” crucifixion and mid-afternoon death and the pre-dawn “Sunday” resurrection, “satisfying” Jesus the Christ’s plainly and repeatedly declared prophecies concerning His own PRECIOUS death, burial and resurrection, our ONLY HOPE of salvation!
No matter that a very young child can begin to count the days on FEWER THAN TWO! of their little fingers from Friday afternoon to Sunday pre-dawn. These are the forever pretentious mainline “churches” that insist upon their philosophical/theological prowess — just exactly like the unbelieving “Jewish” “rabbis” of the past two-plus millennia. Both they and their “Christian” counterparts have constructed their house upon shifting sands, whereas Jesus warns us to build the true house of the true ekklesia upon the Rock which is Himself!
Satan is the father of these wickedly and pretentiously false “churches”, just as Jesus states, unequivocally, of the unbelieving “Jews” in John 8:37-45, and as succinctly rephrased by Him again in Revelation 2:9 and 3:9, the final book of the Bible concerning these very last of days within which we’re all presently living.
Speaking of which, here’s another most apt prophetic warning from the world’s one and only Creator-Saviour, for any and all who truly have ears to hear and an understanding heart:
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. (Matthew 24:35-39)
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. (Mark 13:31)
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. (Luke 21:33)
Amen, and amen, and amen. Verily.
And two corollary last days warnings from Jesus concerning, as above, the vital importance of both hearing and keeping His eternal words:
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:25-28)
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. (John 14:23-24)
And a final apt warning from Jesus concerning those who corrupt His eternal words/teachings:
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:18-20)
