Revelation 2:17 — Eat of the Hidden Manna

Revelation 2:17
Share or Download Revelation 2:17

In each of the seven letters to the churches, Jesus speaks to “him that overcometh”. Praise the Lord that the way to overcome is through faith and belief in Jesus Christ (1 John 5:4-5).

Jesus is the hidden manna, the bread of life (John 6:48) and all who believe in him will have eternal life (John 6:51) and be raised by him on the last day (John 6:54) when he will return with power and great glory (Matthew 24:30). Praise the Lord!

We can see from scripture that white symbolises righteousness and purity. Solomon encourages the reader of Ecclesiastes to let his garments always be white (Ecclesiastes 9:8); and towards the end of the Book of Daniel, he is told by Jesus in a vision that many shall be purified and made white (Daniel 12:10). Further, the saints in heaven wear white robes (Revelation 7:9; 7:14). The white stone, therefore, also symbolises purity, and on the stone our new name is written, just as Jesus has a new name written when he comes with all his saints to the battle at Armageddon:

His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. (Revelation 19:12-15)

Amen, and Amen!

Revelation 2:12-17 (Letter to the church in Pergamos)

12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
